This is not too far from what I was talking about wanting to see done at Metro stations
Baltimore Road in Rockville will get a $4 million makeover including pedestrian improvements.
Maryland’s federal representatives were able to secure the funding to improve the heavily traveled road’s connections to the Rockville Metro station for those driving, walking or biking, said Rockville mayor Larry Giammo. In addition to sidewalks, an 8-foot-wide bike path along Baltimore Road connecting Rockville Town Center and the Millennium Trail on Route 28 will be built.
The second part of the project, which has not been funded, includes a half-mile bike path along Baltimore Road between Gladstone Road and the city’s limits
Addendum: As pointed out in the comments, 8 feet is a bit too narrow. AASHTO recomendations state "Under most conditions, a recommended paved width for a two-directional shared use path is 3.0 m (10 feet)" and 12 is even better.

Eight feet is really narrow for a multi-use trail.
