From the DC Sports and Entertainment Commissions Traffic Operations and Parking Plan. I know Ellen Jones, former director of WABA did some work on this with them, so perhaps that's why the bicycle portion is even included.

Based on the experience at existing urban Ballparks, observations at RFK and the growing use of bicycles in the DC area, it is possible that several hundred people will bike to and from games. Bicycle use will be encouraged through providing ample parking on the Ballpark site, adding signs to the existing bicycle network, and possibly employing a bicycle valet program during high attendance games.

The following bicycle facilities are planned for roadways near the Ballpark:

Potomac Avenue (from South Capitol Street to 1st Street SE) and 1st Street SE (from Potomac Avenue to Eye Street SE) will have bike lanes next to on-street parking lanes.

South Capitol Street (from the new bridge to N St) will have 14' curb lanes, which can accommodate both bicycle and motor traffic.

Bicycle parking will be provided within the on-site parking garages per District zoning regulations. These spaces will be available primarily to employees. Although the exact bicycle rack locations on the Ballpark site are not finalized, they are planned to include racks in the public right-of-way at the terminus of approaching roadways, and near or adjacent to key entrances. There has been discussion about providing bike racks that accommodate up to 20 bikes on 10 individual racks at locations around the Ballpark. Multiple locations have been identified with the assumption that some will be ruled out due to high demand for curbside, and sidewalk space adjacent to the ballpark. There has been discussion that bicycle parking near the site should exceed 200 spaces.

In order to provide high-volume, high-quality bicycle parking at the Ballpark, a bike valet service can be implemented during Ballpark events. Bike valet is a quality service provided to bikers providing easy parking and storage during events. It is used at several MLB ballparks nationwide, and has been employed in the District during events on the National Mall. Although implementing a bike valet at the Ballpark is an official recommendation from the TOPP Task Force, implementation of a bike valet program has yet to begin.

In order to meet the planning goal of providing over 200 bicycle parking spaces, valet or bike parking facilities can be implemented at one or several certain locations. Figure 6 (above) shows a draft of possible bicycle parking locations on the Ballpark site; Figure 7 (below) shows likely bicycle routing and proposed signing.

Current Status: The location of bicycle racks and a possible bike valet are still being developed. When complete, details will be incorporated into this document. DDOT is currently reviewing the bicycle signing recommendations.

So they are making plans, but I'm surprised they're so up in the air. To keep things in perspective they don't know where all the cars are going to park yet, so at least we're getting equal treatment.

My lady and I will be biking to about half the home games next gear so I'm glad they're at least thinking about bike parking.
