New Hill East

Stadium Metro Future The District recently presented the four development proposals for New Hill East, and have given the community until January 16th to voice their opinion on the selection of the final master developer. This development is of the so-called reservation 13 where DC General Hospital now sits. Two of those groups have their proposals online. None of the proposals show a Mass Ave bike/ped/park vehicle bridge across the Anacostia as was proposed in the Anacostia Waterfront Development plan.

HDG Waterfront's visual tour is pretty cool. I love how the streets show people walking, and bikes rolling, but all cars are magically parked. No one drives.

New Hill East JV does something I like. They show SmartBike at the Metro Station (above). I like that SmartBike has cachet and at public meetings people are asking for it.

Both plans talk about being bike friendly, setting aside green space along the river for active sports (biking among them), include a continued street grid that connects to the Anacostia Riverwalk. So from a bike standpoint it's a wash.

You can read more about the HDG Waterfront Partners proposal to the city at their website. www.hdgwaterfrontpartners.com Their sustainability plan and goal to be the Greenest Community in America is extremely impressive.

The HDG Group Plan supports lots of green space and bike sharing as well as car sharing to minize the amount of car traffic. Both of these I am excited to see in the DC area.
