Maryland Secretary of Transportation John Porcari has been nominated for the #2 position at US DOT. Porcari has been good for cyclists and has taken their concerns seriously, so it's sad to see him go, though hopefully this is a gain for the US in general.
Now, who to replace him? I think the dream choice, of course, would be New York City Department of Transportation Commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan - but I'm not sure if she'd be interested in moving from an urban setting like NYC - where she has a lot of freedom - to deal with the kinds of rural issues she'd deal with in Maryland. Would Dan Tangherlini take it or be a good fit if offered? Frankly, I'm not familiar enough with MDOT or Maryland to know the good options. Who is there that would be a good replacement?
