This occurred on Wednesday night and the boy is now in fair condition.
The boy was pedaling around the front of a parked ice cream truck on Heather Drive when he was struck by a Dodge Stratus headed south on the 6900 block of Heather Drive in the Bryans Road area, police said. The accident occurred just before 7 p.m., police said.
The boy was flown to Children's National Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, police said. The driver of the Stratus, a 16-year-old girl from Bryans Road, stopped after the accident and has not been charged, police said. She did not appear to be speeding, police said.
