Last May there was a small dust-up over a fence that Montgomery College erected that cut off easy bike/ped access to one neighborhood. The story goes like this: Montgomery College banned smoking, smokers began to walk to this cul-de-sac to smoke off college property, neighbors hated that and complained and so Montgomery College built a fence which solved the smoker problem, but cut off access. Then someone swallowed a cow to catch the dog.
So it now looks like Rockville will build a short bike/ped path to reestablish access.
City Manager Scott Ullery told the City Council Monday that he spoke with Montgomery College Vice President and Provost Dr. Judy E. Ackerman last week and they have been working with city parks and recreation staff to look at the feasibility of creating a path outside the existing fence line.
The pedestrian and bicycle path would roughly follow the property line from the Princeton Place cul-de-sac southward, where it would eventually open onto campus, Ullery said.
