Edmonston, MD is going to rebuild Decatur Street as an environmentally friendly street with a parallel bike path (or bike lanes - it's hard to say). Since the original announcement the only work done was the painting of a mural on the bridge over the NE Branch. But yesterday there was a ground breaking and several bigwigs showed up including EPA Administrator Lisa P. Jackson - in part because the project is being funded by Recovery Act money.
“President Obama’s Recovery Act is creating jobs today and setting the stage for prosperous, sustainable communities in the years ahead,” said EPA Administrator Lisa P. Jackson. “This is real recovery for Main Street. We're putting people to work by building one of the greenest neighborhoods in the country, and showing America how sustainable development can lower energy bills, foster healthier communities, and keep pollution out of the air, land, and local water sources.”
Not sure how long it will take to complete.
