Yesterday, Metro's Board of Directors granted easements to DC for DDOT's new bridge from the Metropolitan Branch Trail to the Rhode Island Avenue Metro station. DC will pay $4 million to build the bridge, but needed Metro to grant temporary and permanent easements for it. The easements have a value of $135,000, but Metro is giving them to DC for free, in part because the trail could create $190,000 a year in new ridership revenue due to improved walk and bike access to the four Metro stations along the route.
The Metro document also notes that DDOT thinks the trail could have a million users a year - that would put it on par with the CCT, MVT and W&OD.
