Closed for nearly a year and completely rebuilt for HOT lanes, the Oak Street Bridge over the Beltway just north of the W&OD Trail will open at the end of May. The Idylwood Road Bridge is next.
“Part of the improvements on all bridges and overpasses is that they will be bike- and pedestrian-accessible,” said Jeff Wagner, a Fluor-Lane spokesman. “They’ll be built wider so bikes and pedestrians can be in a safe area, away from traffic.”
FABB adds
Once the HOT lanes are completed, Oak Street will be a good bike route leading to Idylwood Rd, Pimmit Hills, and Route 7 and the West Falls Church Metro station.
