WTOP's "Man about town" had a piece on bike helmets recently and how not everyone is wearing one. It includes an interview with the manager of Performance Bicycles in Rockville, who says that while they aren't required he always wears one. The piece was sponsored by Rockville Audi.
JeffB wrote in to tell me that he heard another piece on WTOP (I can't find it online) where Kate Ryan rides the new bike lanes on Penn Ave NW.
She warns in stern tones that bikers running red lights will get hit.
Next she shouts with alarm that a biker is coming head on at her in the lane.
At some point she injects that as a "journalist" she is neutral. I think that is right before she implies that the bike lanes have taken road space away from cars and may be causing congestion.
As she wraps up Kate says she has to hurry back to the station to file her urgent report. Which you couldn't do with a bike.
Finally, at the conclusion of the piece the anchor assures the listeners that Kate has made it back safely

Point of reference: *ALL* of Bob Madigan's ("Man About Town") stories are "sponsored by Rockville Audi".

Kate Ryan's not unfamiliar with riding - check out her "Kate Ryan Reports" blog here. She's gone/going car-free, not as a news stunt, but as a personal change. I never listen to WTOP, so I've no clue as to how that is affecting her reporting (or if it has at all), but I'd give her credit for sincere experience.
