Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Va) has been taking a variety of modes into work "as part of his efforts to highlight the transportation choices and challenges Northern Virginia commuters face on a daily basis." He's slugged, ridden VRE, taken the bus and carpooled.
Connolly also said he wants to ensure commuters have options and he will continue to support bike lanes, rail, bus, telecommuting and other strategies that will mitigate congestion on roads.
His district would make for a long bike ride, but he could try a bike/transit ride if he doesn't think he could make it. As long as he's highlighting transportation choices, why not bike?

Congressman Connolly has been a big supporter of bicycling in Fairfax. It was because of his support when he was Board chairman that we have a bike map and bike coordinator. I know some of his staff are also avid cyclists who bike to work regularly. He also introduced the Complete America's Great Trails Act. Maybe he could highlight the bike commute of his staffer.
