The City of Falls Church replaced the stolen W&OD crosswalk markers with new ones on both sides of each crosswalk yesterday. They're now about 18 inches off the trail with a pedestrian figure on a big reflector and the "State Law Requires Stop for Pedestrian in Crosswalk" written on it.
Falls Church had already installed large yellow diamond signs behind the curb on each side of each crosswalk, with an arrow pointing down to the crosswalk.
Falls Church still hopes to apprehend the thief(s) who took the first ones. The new ones have bases designed to make them more difficult to steal.
The Friends of the W&OD contributed funds to the new signs.

So are these new signs in the road like the previous signs or off to the side? If they are off to the side, I'm not sure how effective they will be. Lots of speeding drivers at the W&OD grade crossings.
