The budget cuts proposed by Mayor Fenty to cover the $188M deficit hit several different programs, including several at DDOT. One of the cuts proposed is to "Reduce funding for pedestrian & bicycle safety enhancements" by $300,000 which, while unfortunate, is a pretty trivial amount of the deficit (0.16%). There are other cuts at DDOT that one could argue have an impact on cyclists, such as road paving and streetlights.

While cutting pedestrian and cycling money, DC will be getting a taxpayer subsidized IHOP (http://washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/columnists/2010/11/government-pancakes-underserved-yuppies)
Wonder why obesity is a problem?

Well, thank God this is happening in FENTY's last proposed budget, because if it were in Gray's first budget, there would be a hell of a lot of hoopla about how much Gray hates cyclists and whatnot!

No hating, just not seeing the purpose of taxpayer subsidies for an IHOP.
