Finally, a weekend free of political ads.
- Cheverly police caught a couple of bike thieves.
- A critique of Maryland bike laws.
- The Sun replies to drivers who think cyclists should get off the road. "If you find a politician foolish enough to put in such a bill, head down to Annapolis and sign up to testify at the hearing. It would be great theater, but you'd better get an early start because the capital city would be choked with bikes. Annapolis would be a sea of Spandex. The committee room would be overflowing with irate bicyclists reminding lawmakers that they pay taxes too. You might even get a chance to meet Lance Armstrong."
- Free seminar on bicycle planning with Jim Sebastian, Paul DeMaio and Chris Eatough on Nov 18th.
- Cyclist struck in Arlington in September and one last week in DC. "He was bleeding/pooling blood on the pavement from the head as I walked up and fortunately I was able to get some towels from a passerby. Was breathing fortunately and started regaining consciousness as I checking his breathing/was yelling at him....Not sure exactly what happened as I didn’t see it but it looks like the driver may have made a quick uturn to try to nab a parking spot and turned into the path of the rider."
- A proposal to bridge George Mason Drive as part of the Columbia Pike Bikeway
- Alexandria has started a study of the Holmes Run Trail tunnels near I-395 and is looking for a smaller grant to bring CaBi to the Potomac Yard area.
- Mystery: Somehow a bus didn't hit a rider trying to put a bike on the rack on front, but the rider wound up injured anyway. Scooby-Doo, where are you?
- An out-of-towner falls in love with CaBi, and bike-sharing in general.
- Richard Layman writes about safe cycling, vehicular cycling and the Idaho stop. And again about trails, etiquette and signage.
- Just got into a bicycle crash? There's an app for that.
- Two Norfolk police officers were charged with involuntary manslaughter, reckless driving, and driving too fast for conditions in the aftermath of a fatal crash with a cyclist. "Babineau said Bennett spotted Worsley, who was wearing dark clothes, cycling across the street. Bennett stopped his car, Babineau said. Folston, who was driving behind Bennett, pulled around Bennett's stopped cruiser and struck Worsley, he said. Police and Babineau said tests showed Worsley's blood-alcohol concentration exceeded the legal limit for driving."
- Reminder: Tweed Ride is next weekend
- Baltimore passed a Cyclist Bill of Rights law and Complete Streets law including "Cyclists have the right to full access for themselves and their bicycles on all mass transit."
- FABB celebrates the publication of their Bicycle Advocacy Guide

Here's an appalling story that fits with the stuff you cover here: http://www.vaildaily.com/article/20101104/NEWS/101109939/1078&ParentProfile=1062

Potomac Yards would be a good place for future CaBi stations. There's a lot of traffic to and from the shopping center and the Crystal City stations are not that far away. Hopefully Alexandria will be able to expand to Old Town soon after that.
As for Arlington, I read that they have funding in place to expand CaBi to Rosslyn next spring, despite the miss on the TIGER II funds.
Maybe the local governments can collaborate with BIDs and private groups to get funding to expand the system more quickly into Alexandria and the Rosslyn-Ballston corridor.
