From the Montgomery County Department of Police
I would like to take this opportunity to request your attendance at a Public Forum that we have arranged at the Public Service Training Academy, at 9710 Great Seneca Highway, Rockville, Maryland 20850, on Monday, June 20, 2011, from 6:00 p.m. to 8 p.m. You are receiving this invitation because we have heard from you in the past with your concerns regarding this subject. This will cover information regarding the laws, safety, and specific educational pieces when motorists and cyclists share the roadways. We also hope to incorporate a question and answer session and a time to openly vent concerns and opinions in a structured and organized fashion.
Each year, the 1st District encounters an overwhelming barrage of letters, emails, and phone calls regarding the sharing of the roadways between motorists and cyclists along MacArthur Boulevard. We have responded to each and every one specifically answering all of their concerns and questions to the best of our abilities. We have also spoken to the officers who patrol this area, especially during the busier times of the year when the cyclists are more abundant. We have even reached out and responded to the media last year when citizens asked for their support to bring their concerns out publicly.
We now would like to go a step further and facilitate a successful, productive, and well attended forum to further our ultimate goal of ensuring the safety and welfare to all of the users on our roadways. We expect to see many local cyclist groups and many of the concerned citizens who have written to us throughout the years, U.S. Park Police and possibly some local officials who have received some of the same correspondence. Please feel free to share this invitation with your colleagues and community groups. Also, respond to me directly (tammy.chaney@montgomerycountymd.gov), at your earliest convenience regarding your attendance so that we can appropriately plan the agenda and allot appropriate time constraints.
