I can also imagine reduced transit hurting cycling over time... transit is part of a car-lite/car-free lifestyle. (re: death spiral)

I have long chosen to cycle over transit for most intra-city trips (at least when I am by myself, for up to 10 miles or so) because when you factor the time required to get to transit, waiting for the train/bus, riding, then going by foot to your final destination, bicycling is usually faster.
