Hate this intersection. I've taken to doing a cyclocross dismount and *running* across the intersection when crossing southbound.
I figure if I get hit in a crosswalk while on foot there's a sliver of a chance the driver will be found to be at fault. Sure won't happen if I'm on a bike.

Guess we need to change the law such that it states that bikes have a right to be in a cross walk, and if you hit one, you're at fault.
Hell, I got grazed walking across a crosswalk in Maryland and the Takoma Park cops wouldn't even ticket the driver saying I "jumped in front of the car." The tell me that you can't step into the cross walk if a car is near. And they don't need to stop for you if you're on the sidewalk and not physically in the cross walk. Of course, you can't step into that cross walk while there's car after car because, well, as the ped, you'll be "jumping" in front of the car.
I love cops.

I love my neighborhood MPD officers, and think they're hard-working and underpaid. But cops are there to enforce the dominant social order--not to protect the rights of minorities and the marginalized.
It's the reason you'll never see anyone pepper-sprayed at a Tea Party rally, but it's commonplace at Occupy [Wherever].
