This bridge and corridor are currently one of the two good routes to the Wilson Bridge from DC.
The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will host a second public meeting to further stakeholder participation in the continuing Southern Avenue Corridor (South Capitol Street, SE to 23rd Street, SE) and Winkle Doodle Branch Bridge Planning Study. The Winkle Doodle Branch Bridge is located near the intersection of Southern Avenue and South Capitol Street, SE. The bridge covers a channel and spans between southeast Washington and Prince George’s County.
Ward 8 residents and other interested stakeholders are encouraged to attend this meeting to:
1. Review issues identified at the June 6th public meeting,
2. See and discuss the concept solutions,
3. Learn about next steps for the planning study.
For more information about this meeting or study please contact the Public Engagement Team for the Southern Avenue Corridor and Winkle Doodle Branch Bridge Project at 202-563-5033 or via email atmalia@thecsmi.com.

Any idea what this is all about? Are they thinking about restoring that small creek from a concrete sewer to a real creek again? This bridge is south of southern avenue and I thought that all or most of the creek is actually in Maryland. Oxon Run plan seems to show a future trail along Southern avenue but I just assumed it means sidepath rather than a trail along this creek.

The "Winkle Doodle" bridge? Really?

I don't think the plan involves restoring the branch north of the bridge. This bridge, named for the branch, is part of DC. There are a few plans for trails in this area, and so if you might use them, I'd recommend going to the meeting.

Well, it couldn't well be called Yankee Doodle south of the Mason Dixon line.
(srsly do you know where the name comes from? Google has this site as one of the premier resources for all your Winkle Doodle informational needs)

Kolohe, I don't know. I've asked John Kelly to look into it.
