A man was fatally struck on his bicycle in Washington Thursday morning. It happened at 11th and U St. NW, just blocks from the U St. Metro, around 10 a.m.
Police say the striking driver stayed on scene. The crash closed several streets.
The cyclist died at an area hospital. He has not been identified.
Within the hour, police say a woman riding a bicycle was struck nearby at 16th and W St. NW She was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, but is expected to be OK.
The driver remained on scene.

A 20-year-old bicyclist was critically injured Thursday morning when he was hit by a car along the U Street corridor, according to D.C. police.
Officer Anthony Clay, a department spokesman, said the Major Crash Unit is investigating the scene at 11th and U streets NW. He said the male victim was unconscious but breathing when he was taken to an area hospital.
The accident occurred shortly after 10 a.m. Police could not immediately say which direction the vehicle and bicyclist were traveling.
