They charged this 72yo woman with the following:
-FAILURE TO CONTROL VEHICLE SPEED ON HIGHWAY TO AVOID COLLISION
-NEGLIGENT DRIVING VEHICLE IN CARELESS AND IMPRUDENT MANNER ENDANGERING PROPERTY, LIFE AND PERSON
-DRIVER FAILURE TO YIELD RIGHT-OF-WAY IN BIKE LANE/SHOULDER TO RIDER OF BIKE

RIP Keyworth. This is why I always wonder about the you can ride on US50/404/etc signs I see. Thanks, but no thanks.

Hmm... I checked out google streetview. It's hard to imagine more favorable conditions for cycling along a rural highway. Great sightlines, a super wide shoulder with no curb. And it happened in the middle of the day. Scary stuff.

And how is it that they managed to charge the driver at all? Were there witnesses? Did the driver left the roadway entirely and attack the cornfields? Absent such additional evidence, this could very well have become the classic one-sided "cyclist came out of nowhere and just swerved in front of me" incident.

Well, if it was on 404, then I would be surprised if there weren't witnesses. It's usually fairly congested through Denton, enough that you're almost never out of sight of other vehicles except in the dead of night.

And you're right, this is the one area of it with the best sightlines, wide shoulders and I think that's also at the four lane portion.

Not sure one gets "ejected" from one's bicycle. It makes it sound as if he should have been wearing a seatbelt.

T,
Are we talking about the same incident? The article says that it happened on Route 328, near the intersection with Saulsbury Road.

According to Google's imagery, just two lanes there, but with extremely wide shoulders and long sightlines. Disclaimer: I am completely unfamiliar with that area, so I have no idea if those are the conditions at present.

No, same incident. I misread the court case record for location stopped versus location of the accident, the former being E404 & Salisbury Rd.

By the way, all three charges were dropped against her.

Wait. What? Why? Do you have a source for this? I can't find anything about it.

Sorry, didn't check back here until today.

Yes, source is in court case search:

I'm sure the lawyers here can explain it better, but a nolle pros is the equivalent of dropping the charges. It's the state's attorney declining to pursue the case.

So yep, unless there is some misfiled charges, it looks like there is no penalty to here. Sad.

Just plug in her last name and first name. 99% sure it's the same person given the location, her age, charges, and time/date of incident.

I should add FWIW, that they may have misfiled the disposition given it appears she just skipped her court hearing from the other half of records. Hard to tell. Usually they post continuances as necessary. Worth keeping tabs on.
