The East Coast Greenway, a bike route from Florida to Maine on a collection of trails and road, runs right through DC. (They like to think of themselves as the "Urban AT"). They put out a nice newsletter too, which you can sign up for on their homepage. Local area news in this month's newsletter includes
- Report on the naming of the John Overstreet Connector
- The VA Capital Trail dedication
And:
Improved ECG Interim Route Mapped out in Northern VA Our interim on-road route in Fairfax County has been moved to make it safer and to incorporate some sidepath. The former route included areas with heavy traffic, and thanks to the work of David Brickley, our VA State Committee Chair and other volunteers, we revised our on-road route, from Mt. Vernon Highway and Route 1 to the Prince William County Line. If you are a member and would like cue sheets of this revised route, contact [email protected]
The Grand History Loop Imagine: You fly into the DC area, rent a bike or strap on your walking shoes, and head off on a 185-mile loop tour of one of the most richly historic parts of our country. The Grand History Loop Trail project is a network of trails encircling Baltimore, Annapolis, DC, Frederick, MD, and Gettysburg, Hanover, PA and York, PA. This loop will connect 100 miles of existing trails, including the NCRT and other ECG segments. It is a rare opportunity to link the highly-populated DC area with the national parks of western MD and central PA.
And a link to this article about how "bicycling is the new golf." Does that mean I have to wear weird looking pants now? Oh...yeah...
