Just a blurb here...
The massive Potomac Yard development reached another milestone when the Arlington County Board narrowly approved design plans for several key remaining parcels along Jefferson Davis Highway within the county.
The county's Transportation Commission, a citizens advisory group, cited concerns about privately owned streets, bicycle parking, narrow sidewalks and vehicular circulation in voting 6 to 2 against the proposed site plan. The County Board approved the developer's proposal in a narrow 3 to 2 vote.
The project site is all renditions, with little additional info - it reads like the sales pitch it is. The roads shouldn't get too much traffic, so biking should be easy. But bike parking and shower facilities (in the tiny bits of office that remain) are the kinds of things Arlington should be forcing them to add in now. Surprised they don't seem to mention the sites proximity to the Mt. Vernon and Four Mile Run trails, but they probably aren't selling to me (or didn't hire me as a consultant).
Good article. I wanted to point to Arlington's bike parking Webpage which shows the County's bike parking, shower, and locker requirements for all new construction. It's at http://bikearlington.com/parking.cfm. Development at Potomac Yard will meet these requirements.
