From their closing announcement
After nine memorable years, the current board and staff of the Shaw EcoVillage project regret to announce the closing of the organization.
During those nine years Shaw Ecovillage (SEV) delivered programs engaging youth in bettering the Shaw neighborhood. These programs fostered community activism and youth leadership, taught concepts in urban sustainability and planning while also providing job skills for future employment.
The two arms of SEV the EcoDesign Corps and Chain Reaction Community Bike Shop have hopefully spread their seed for not only the youth that have been trained but for the adults that have been inspired by the rigor of the programs and the resulting projects. Board members and staff, past and present have always been proud of the youth interns and their accomplishments.
SEV is also very grateful for the generous donations and support from foundations, government grants, local businesses. and affiliated organizations.
Finally, SEV would never have been possible without the faith, volunteer sweat and monetary support from individuals over the years. We thank you.
This is really unfortunate. It seemed hopeful when Chain Reaction reopened last summer but I guess they just weren't able to make it work.
