MoBike, together with WABA, CCT and Potomac Pedallers submitted a series of budget requests to the County Executive to be included in the Montgomery County 2009-2014 Capital Budget.
Basically they're asking that the 2005 Countywide Functional Bikeways Plan be pursued more aggressively. Nationwide, bike plan deadlines and goals not being met is unfortunately the rule not the exception. The letter asks for funding the Bikeways Master Plan implementation for an increase in budgeting and staffing; more money for maintenance, faciltiy planning - they identify ten projects, safety and education programs and the Met Branch Trail; and construction of the US 29 commuter bikeway
Unfortunately, while cyclists' needs remain high, county revenue is dropping. Just keeping bike-related spending at prior levels will take a lot of pressure by cyclists on county officials.
