Route 1 Plans

The article is about a wide range of state funded improvements in College Park including

$7 million to $8 million engineering work on the first of three phases of Route 1 between College Avenue and Route 193 next year.

The engineering phase is typically where designers identify where utility lines are located, go over blueprints and other preparatory work for construction, said Kellie Boulware, spokeswoman for the State Highway Administration.

Rosapepe said he anticipates the engineering work to be completed in 2010.

The total estimated $110 million project will include installing a median, bike lanes and emergency lanes. (Two proposals are on the table. The five-lane undivided alternative includes a typical section consisting of two 11-feet inside travel lanes and two 16-foot outside travel lanes in each direction separated by a 13-foot center turn lane).

The four-lane divided alternative includes a typical section of two 11-foot inside travel lanes and two 16-foot outside travel lanes in each direction.
