Waterfront Park at The Yards will contain part of the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail. The developers recently submitted their early (35%) design plans to the National Capital Planning Commission. This section will connect the Navy Yard promenade to the trail built along the WASA property (no word on what that will look like yet).
The report includes this disturbing news
The bicycle path will divert from the boardwalk to River and Water Streets. While this is a deviation from the bike path elsewhere along the riverfront, it was deemed necessary to separate bicyclists from other park users, even when events aren’t planned for the boardwalk. Bicyclists will be able to walk their bikes along the boardwalk crossing through the park.
River and water streets are the new streets on the north and east of the site. This shows up better on the drawing to the left. So at the far west, cyclists will have to loop around the outside to reconnect to the trail along the waterfront.
This also means no biking across the cool pedestrian bridge shown below.
Thanks to Ballpark and Beyond.
Is this really any different than the Alexandria waterfront where you are detoured a block or two in?
No biggie, its better than playing dodge-stroller

Yes. Because we don't get to ride across the cool bridge.

I know you are in love with the cool bridge, but will there be easy bridge access to replace it?

Not sure I follow your question Jeff.
