The City Paper restarted it's "Best of DC" feature this year and they have an entry for Best Bike Shop. And the winner is...
Phoenix Bike Shop offers most of its used and retooled bikes for around $70, and the feel-good is free: It’s a nonprofit that teaches middle-school kids from Arlington’s ethnically mixed and economically not-so-blessed southern nabes the basics of bike repair.

Asylum won the Best Biker Bar (I assume they mean cyclists not motorcyclists). Every time I go there it's filled with bike messengers.
I wrote about the temporary closing of the main bicycle rack at National Airport and the City Paper picked up on it too, including this fantastic photo of it. Biking to DCA, BTW also made their "Best of list" this year.
Three miles south of Memorial Bridge on the Mount Vernon Trail, a leisurely 15-minute ride from downtown, look for a (slightly outdated) sign that says WASHINGTON NATIONAL AIRPORT. Turn off, then follow the signs for BIKE PARKING. Lock your helmet to your rig, throw your bag over your shoulder, and head on in to the terminal, where the arctic air will dry any perspiration. There’s a possibility that your return trip might be in the rain, but that’s better than the near-certainty that you’ll have either a long, soul-crushing Metro trip or a long, soul-crushing wait for a cab outside otherwise.
