In a story near and dear to my heart - on July 23rd representatives of Goddard Spaceflight Center met with the Greenbelt City Council to discuss NASA's commitment to making a greener campus.
In terms of transportation to the facility, [Greenbelt Mayor Judith] Davis said employees who bike to work currently travel on a route in Northway Fields, through a hole in a fence and down an incline to meet up with the access ramp which goes from the [BW] parkway into Goddard. Representatives said they would discuss an authorized public ramp into Goddard for employees who bike to work.
This is how to get on campus from Greenbelt or the Greenbelt Metro - If I'm (a) on my folding bike and (b) going to somewhere on the east red line or green line north of Archives this is how I go to the Metro. The path is well worn enough that I'm not the only one. But it could be better. A few years ago NASA did some improvements to this bridge/ramp but were not interested in any bike facilities. It'd be great if they did - since they have a congressional mandate to get bike/ped/transit use to at least 2% and last I heard they were not reaching that.
FYI - end of Northway Fields is a great place to get some nice free mulch.
I see cyclists going down that way quite regularly, so I think you are correct that your route gets some use (I live at the corner of Ridge and Northway.)
The mulch is "officially" only for Greenbelt residents, for what it's worth.

I wondered about that - the mulch - but saw no signs. Good to know.
