The Alzheimer's Association 12th annual Tour de Canal is this weekend, in the Gazette
The tour, started in 1997, is geared to raise money for the national capital area chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, a group that provides research for Alzheimer's disease as well as care and support for those suffering with the condition.
Cyclists choose to ride their bikes for two days over the 184 miles — the entire length of the canal — or 100 miles over the course of two days, culminating in Georgetown Sunday. While registration for the longer bike tours has closed, bike enthusiasts may still sign up for the Alzheimer's Association 20-mile Memory Ride this Sunday, in which bikers tour the canal from Georgetown to Carderock and back again, crossing the finish line with the rest of the tour.
