Paul, a frequent commenter and a friend of mine from way back in the mid-90s, asked me to thank some Good Samaritans for him
A car struck me while I was riding home from work on 9/24 (Beach Dr and Kensington Pkwy). Several cyclists took care of me until paramedics came and whisked me off to the hospital. I'd like to thank them, and let them know that Im beat up but not seriously injured. They did everything right--stabilized me, kept me calm, briefed the cops, EMTs etc. Seems this is an important issue--How many people know basic first aid and how to deal with an undiagnosed trauma victim?
This seems to be going around, as I saw this on the BikeWashington message board
Thanks to the cyclists that didn't hesitate to stop and help me with a medical emergency on Thursday Sept. 25 along the Mt. Vernon Trail just north of the airport. I started getting light-headed, got off my bike, and passed out. Several cyclists stopped and attended to me my while others called for emergency medical help. For about 15 minutes until the ambulance arrived, as I went in and out of consciousness, there were cycling good Samaritans comforting me, one even left his spare shirt and pants to use as a pillow. While in the hospital, my doctor did say that this was a significant medical event, but for now it will remain a mystery as several heart and head tests all showed me in good health. If you were one of these helpful folks, I sure would like to hear from you to express my sincere gratitude and return your clothes.
