I'm not familiar with these roads (though from Street View it looks like it has some shoulders) or how bike-friendly they are, but if you ride up there, it's a good opportunity to get any improvements considered.
Maryland is deciding what transportation improvements to make along Norbeck Road and Spencerville Road between Georgia Avenue and Interstate 95 in Prince George's and Montgomery counties.
The State Highway Administration says it wants to hear from neighbors, motorists and business and civic leaders at workshop on Nov. 18. There will be some displays set up to explain the issues under review and the potential impact of the project. Highway administration representatives will be there to discuss those issues, answer questions and take comments. (The project manager for this corridor study is Shawn Burnett, who can be reached at 410-545-8531 or 800-548-5026.)
The Nov. 18 workshop will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the James H. Blake High School Cafeteria, 300 Norwood Rd., Silver Spring.
If done right, this could be a useful east-west artery. I've biked this before. The part of 28 along the Hampshire Greens housing development and golf course is very nice with both wide shoulders and a multi-use path. Once you get west of layhill, it is downright frightening for a while. Then there are some side roads that you can use to get to the Rock Creek trail. Again, it wouldn't take much to make this much more useable.

Andy, what would it take to make the section west of Layhill bike-friendly? I seem to recall that it has no shoulders and the foliage comes right up to the road.
