This time from the Post Politics Hour
Raleigh, N.C.: A little wonky here: Secretary of Transportation speculation! Rep. Earl Blumenauer? Rep. Jim Oberstar? Janette Sadik-Khan (New York City Department of Transportation)? Any clue for us?
Ben Pershing: That is wonky! I have no inside knowledge for you. I have seen Blumenauer and Oberstar's names mentioned in print, but don't know whether that's just someone's wish list or if they're actual candidates. Blumenauer is an ally of environmentalists and a huge backer of incentives for people to use public transportation and ride bikes. He's also a little quirky; the Cabinet could use at least one guy who wears bow ties. Oberstar is a more traditional old bull, who likes spending money on building roads and bridges. I don't know the New Yorker you mentioned, but you'd have to think there are some state transportation directors out there who would make attractive candidates.
Janette Sadik-Kahn, seen here riding her bike, would be a great pro-bike choice too. She's a bike commuter.
Since becoming Commissioner, she has embarked on an aggressive agenda to improve air quality, mobility, and public space, and reach a state of good repair on all of the Department's facilities.
it always makes me laugh when the supposed political "experts" like mr. pershing here don't know the people that those of us in the grassroots do. reminds me that those "experts" aren't quite as "expert" as they like to pretend to be.
