This makes me think of the Rats of NIMH. From Stephen Syphax with NPS.
I just wanted to give you a "heads-up" about activity that will be happening along the west bank section of the new Anacostia River Trail over the next several days. As planned earlier in the trail construction process, contractors will be pulling several boulders from that area between the RFK access road and Congressional Cemetery to use as "bollards" (of sorts) on select sections of the trail (near the Barney Circle trail head and near Water Street & M Street). The plan calls for over 50 boulders. The collection of the boulders will require equipment (probably a back hoe) entering the old boulder field at about 3 points. To help prevent dumpers from using the same access points later, I asked the contractors to place similar boulders at those entry points as they leave.
By the way, my recollection is that those boulders were associated with a nearby road, and were placed at that location 15-20 years ago for future use.

Now, I wonder when the lights will be turned on (this is one of three locations I can think of where lights were installed a year ago or more, but have not been turned on).
