update and to seek public comment on the streetscape design.

The new road will feature "Shared vehicle/bicycle travel lanes" and will widen the sidewalks. Great, they're finally going to fix the street after I've quit going out there. Construction will start in the fall and last 15 months.
I usually don't agree with those sentiments, but that part of 18th (along with a few blocks of M street in georgetown) are the best places to remove ALL the parking spaces. The last time I snagged one was 10 years ago.
widening the sidewalks just means more room for the drunks to stumble around.

I think I'd prefer to see a slightly smaller enlargement on the sidewalks and dedicated N/S bike lanes along 18th St. Regardless I'm happy to see they are looking to get rid of that miserable back-in only diagonal parking along the east side of the street. Nothing like staring at the bumpers of cars as you walk up the road.
