John R. Yates, 67, a retired juvenile probation officer was earning his third master's degree at the University of Baltimore.
The avid cyclist died Tuesday morning while riding south on Maryland
Avenue when he got tangled in the rear wheels of a truck that turned
right onto Lafayette Street in front of him.
Police are still looking for the driver.
Police said the accident was caught on camera, but the picture was so
grainy they couldn't make out the license plate on the plain white box
truck. Investigators believed the long-time rider somehow clipped the
back wheel of the truck. They suspect the driver left the scene
without knowing what had happened.
Police said they only have one witness. Folks from nearby shops told us they only saw one man, on a cell phone, who was with a woman. If you were nearby and may remember any details of the accident or the truck, please call police.
