Another story from back in March (so it may be out of date).
Donna Warren of Fort Washington writes in to the Gazette to ask that the trails she and her neighbors were promised are preserved.
A few years ago, trail easements were approved as a win-win situation
between the desire to build homes and to provide the public with trails
to enjoy in their leisure.
The [Prince George's] County Council is looking at keeping trail easements from being
created on "individually residentially zoned lots" and placing severe
restrictions on building trails on existing easements. Restrictions
would include having the trail open to the public only between 9 a.m.
and 4 p.m., gating the trail when it is not open to the public and
having [the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission]
Park Police man security posts every 1,000 feet.
Lest you think she's crazy, it's true. Proposed by District 8's Tony Knotts.
I couldn't find anything on whether or not this bill passed (please tell me it has not). I think the effort stems from a group trying to prevent the Potomac Heritage Trail from passing through their subdivision, because God, that would be awful.
Searching our county eGov web site, it appears to have been referred to committee in March and stayed there.
