Remember when SmartBike started and every news organization in the
world including the Daily Planet covered it? I suspect that is just
starting now with the Bikestation D.C.. Reuters is first out of the gate.
That's cute. She thinks legislators will use Bikestation D.C. They can bring their bikes into their office if they want. Some new facts:
White-Kjoss concluded, "Our past experience shows that 30 percent of Bikestation users were previously driving a car for commuting and 60 percent have significantly increased their use of their bicycles because of the services, security and convenience the Bikestation offers. We expect at least these results in D.C."
Registration could start any day now (let me know if you see anything about it. I'd like to scoop DCist at least once this month).
On an unrelated note - except that it's DDOT related - I've been told there are new bike lanes on W St NW around 15th.
Cat from Bike and Roll [who will be operating the Bikestation] posted this on the Prince of Petworth blog:
"Bike Parking is $30/ten days; $32/month; $116/yr. Unfortunately, members are not guaranteed a spot - it is first come first served."

That's not a Reuters story; that's a press release.

They've also added a bike lane to Euclid St NW between 16th and 18th. We could use some more lanes going west, though!

If you see new bike lanes let me know so I can update the bike map.
