City Paper's Best Local Bike Blog 2009
I ride 11th Street into downtown on my commute every weekday, and I can tell you that this reconstruction project has been a bear. The work has been going on for what seems like a year. It is badly needed, though -- the surface is in such bad shape that it rattles every bone in my body even on a mountain bike with 2-inch tires. The bike lane will be a huge bonus, as 11th already has a bike lane north of Florida that extends up to Columbia Heights. Those of us who like the dedicated space a bike lane affords will be able to ride almost the entire route from downtown to Walter Reed using bike lanes on 11th and 14th.
