Via JDLand comes this notice:
On or about November 30, 2009, the pedestrian bridge crossing DC 295 between Anacostia High School and Anacostia Fitness Center will close to allow 11th Street Bridge Project construction.
The pedestrian bridge must be demolished to enable construction of a new ramp from southbound DC 295 to the new 11th Street Bridge. The pedestrian bridge will be replaced when construction progress allows.
The 11th Street Bridge Project and District Department of Transportation regret any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding during the closure and reconstruction of the pedestrian bridge.
Not sure when this will be rebuilt/reopened, but it is probably years away. If you use this, you're new options are Nicholson St, SE to the north or Good Hope Rd, SE to the south. I hope the new bike/ped bridge has fewer sharp turns - and is less ugly.

I believe the DC-based Landscape Architecture Bureau designed a proposal for this bridge. Should be in the 'experimental' section of their projects page.
