There has been so much talk and publicity around the 15th Street cycletrack, that we missed DC's other contraflow lane opening. I noticed during WABA's move that the bike lane on Champlain Street is open now. [Please pardon my terrible cell phone photo. Bad photographer + bad camera = this picture].
The road is one way south with sharrows in the center of that lane - you can see one way up there if you squint. There is also a northbound bike lane, but unlike 15th there is no separation between the two. The work isn't quite done - you can see an unpainted line in this photo and it looks like some lights are going to be installed on the north side - probably so they can close the street during the school day.
Champlain now makes a good alternative to 18th since it's slower with less traffic and less chaos than 18th.
Meanwhile, DDOT's WABA's move was pretty easy. Good weather helped as did the monster bikes from Via Velo. It was mostly done by noon - instead of 2pm as scheduled. The new offices are sweet too. It's like they've moved out of the dorm room and into the new condo they bought with help from their parents. They have much more space and even a classroom for Confident City Cycling classes, but ironically no shower (yet).

Cool! DDOT moved in with WABA? It's about time they started working more closely (literally and figuratively). Now if we could just get them in bed together...
