DDOT is hosting a meeting April 8th on the Sherman Avenue Corridor Project, which will redesign the street between Park Road and Florida Avenue.
From the picture I'm going to make a leap and state that they're probably suggesting adding sharrows. The Sherman Avenue corridor is primarily a residential neighborhood. The current layout of the roadway does not reflect the main function of the neighborhood. The new construction plans will:
- Make Sherman Avenue feel more residential rather than a commuter route by reducing vehicular lanes to one in each direction.
- Improve pedestrian safety by widening the sidewalks to make them ADA compliant, and upgrading the wheelchair ramps and crosswalk markings.
- Make Sherman Avenue more attractive by planting trees and shrubs along the corridor, upgrading street lights and upgrading traffic signals.
At the April 8th meeting, the project engineers will present the final design plans and solicit feedback and comments from the community.

it looks like that says 8' parking lane and 14' driving lane. what's the minimum recommendation for bike lanes? could they cut that down to 10' driving lanes with two 4' bike lanes adjacent to the median?
or better yet, move the parking to the median and put the bike lanes along the curb?

Sherman the road is so bad now, and the sidewalk obstacles are criminal! It will be a lifechanger for the neighborhood.

IMGoph. I think 5' is the AASHTO minimum. I'm not sure the car lane can go to 9'. I won't be here next week, but someone should go to the meeting and ask.

i think it's a great idea to create a median and plant tress in it instead of allowing bikers to use the road, too.
