I believe Mr. and Mrs. WashCycle are still on vacation, but I wanted to see this up quickly. More info to follow as it becomes available.
WJLA is reporting (via DCist) a cyclist was struck and killed by a Humvee providing security for the Nuclear Security Summit.
ABC 7's Jennifer Donelan reports the Humvee back up over the female cyclist at 12th Street NW and New York Avenue, about five blocks from the Walter E Washington Convention Center.
The Humvee was blocking off the road for a motorcade when the incident took place.
Our thoughts should all be with the victim's friends and family at the moment. While I don't want to distract from that, I hope MPD and the Secret Service conduct a thorough investigation as well as take a long look at their security and motorcade policies after this tragedy.
Update:
The Washington Post has an update, and corrects the story to be a military truck and not a Humvee.
Already a buzz about it on Twitter, with some passions already running high.
While I know a few folks who would be arguing passionately about ANY bicycle death, I have to wonder if the extra emphasis around this one (and so early afterwards) is a result of the security and privacy issues surrounding this summit...

Fox 5 story is at http://tinyurl.com/y5757bb
See the video. Yes, this is getting a lot of high level attention because it's an issue with summit security.
