Denver, aka the Paris of Colorado, is knocking us down a notch today. On Earth Day 2010, the city launched a 400 bicycle B-Cycle system with 40 stations. Theirs is also a little more flexible than smartbike
A 24-hour membership is $5; seven-day is $20; 30-day is $30; and an annual membership costs $65. Students and seniors ages 65 and up can receive discounts, bringing their annual rate to $45.
Usage fees apply per ride. If bikers can get to their destination and return their cycle to a kiosk in under 30 minutes, the ride is free. But the charge begins to escalate after 31 minutes, starting at $1.10 with a daily max capped at $65.
And you can sign up online or at the kiosk itself. It also does some cooler stuff
"Denver B-cycle members will have their own personal account page, which will track total miles, carbon offset, calories burned, money saved, and trip details, among other things. Members will have the ability to share this information on Facebook and Twitter with a simple click of a button,"
The health part is probably because the system is sponsored by health care provider Humana. That's the kind of partnership DC should emulate. We'll always be first*, even if not everyone knows that. We could get B-Cycle here, for all we know.

they look better than the smartbikes... which I have to say are just incredibly ugly.
