From the previous week, David Alpert on the Penn Ave bike lanes.
Build something, then see if it works and make changes — fine. Ask people and make sure to listen before finalizing a design — fine. But build it and then redo it before it's done?
And Adam Voiland.
Chain Bridge should be open by now, with new bike ramps.
WAMU coverage of the bike sharing change, BikeDC (which had 4000 participants), bike sharing change again, and Bike to Work day.
Tina Shat was one of the few people there who was not a bike commuter. Though she says the new program should lure some new people into bike lanes, she might not be one of them.
What's holding her back? "I'm not a morning person," she says, "I like to sleep in."
Forestville Road Bridge over the Beltway near Andrews AFB will get a new five-foot wide sidewalk to improve bicycle and pedestrian access. Five feet isn't great, but it's better than a sharp stick in the eye.
Speaking of bike sharing, David Alpert asks for name suggestions, and one common suggestion is already taken, thank you. I actually don't think Arlington and Alexandria want a name that is Washington based. I suggest Potomac Bixi or Pixi.
Speaking of BikeDC, NBC4 covered it - and noted that many drivers were annoyed.
Re NBC's coverage of BikeDC, focused almost entirely on how many motorists were annoyed.
I am curious to see how NBC will cover Monday's "rolling thunder" rally, with road closures 1030-4pm. How about the Marine Corp Marathon? Or any other event that blocks traffic?
