Metro is having a public hearing on their capital budget this evening at 5:30pm. This does not cover the plan to increase bike locker fees, but it does included funding for bicycle and pedestrian improvements, which includes bike racks and lockers. They plan to amend the budget to cut the funding for bicycle and pedestrian improvements by 53.3% from $3 million to $1.4 million.
If you would like to speak in opposition (or in favor, I suppose) to this cut, you need to send your name, mailing address, telephone number and organization affiliation, if any, via email to [email protected]. Alternatively, you may fax this information to 202-962-1133. Signing up beforehand will give you five minutes to talk, and you get to go first. If you just show up, you'll only get three minutes.
The hearing will be at the Metro boardroom, Jackson Graham building, 600 Fifth St. NW. Accessible from the Judiciary Square or Gallery Place stops\
Anyone can submit comments in Wednesday's hearing. They also can submit written comments until 5 p.m., June 7, to [email protected] or faxed to 202-962-1133 or mailed to Office of the Secretary, WMATA, 600 Fifth Street NW; Washington D.C. 20001.
This is just as FTA is finalizing a rule to expand the eligibility for ped/bike infrastructure around transit stops eligible for federal transit enhancement $$.
