The bike/ped bridge from Anacostia Park over 295 and the old railroad tracks to Anacostia Senior High School reopened yesterday. The bridge, that originally opened with the freeway in 1964, had been closed since January as part of the 11th Street Bridge project. The original west abutment had to be removed to make room for additional lanes and it was rebuilt closer to the pool, along with a new center span. I didn't hear too much griping about it being closed, so I'm not sure how many readers use it, but it was missed by users of the pool.
DDOT began weekday shuttle service June 22, the day after District schools closed for the summer, and soon after expanded the service to weeknights and weekends due to high usage.
I rode over it yesterday and it was fine. The pool-side ramp was kind of narrow though and had a big 180 degree turn at the bottom. But I doubt it gets enough traffic for that to be a problem.
