Police say the suspected shooter is Eric Foreman, who was just 16 at the time but is being charged as an adult.
Court documents say witnesses claim Foreman shot Godleski as he rode his bike near Sherman Circle. When Godleski fell off, investigators say Foreman walked over and shot the bicyclist twice more at close range.
I'll be honest, this story freaked me out. I'm about to move into a house in Petworth from Mt. Pleasant, and I'm not naive about crime in the neighborhood, but I know enough to know that the more violent stuff in MtP/Columbia Heights/Petworth is almost always drug/gang related and almost never targeted at citizens. Or at least at a time when I'm usually at home asleep (2-3-4 in the morning)
The shooting really shocked me and the age and coldness of the perp was really alarming.
The funny thing is that I always feel more safe late at night on my bike vs. walking, just because it's harder to follow me and if someone is on a dark corner waiting for someone to hold up, if on a bike, you're usually come and gone before they even realize that you're there.
