Prescott, AZ - Prescott College has a course "The Bicycle: Vehicle for Social Change," that uses old bikes as tools to teach students not only bicycle mechanics, but also how those bikes can help others. This reminds me of the Scraper Bikes (in the video below).
Kansas City, MO - Livestrong, Lance Armstrong's cancer-fighting foundation, signed a deal for the naming rights to the MLS' Sporting Kansas City's stadium. "The $200 million stadium, scheduled to open in June, will be called Livestrong Sporting Park. The club said Tuesday that Livestrong will not pay a fee and will also receive a portion of all stadium revenue, including ticket sales and concessions." Meanwhile, here in DC, Rep. Jack Kingston (R-Ga.) thinks the Lance Armstrong is a waste of money, and is being done to advance someone's career - not for the public good.
Los Angeles, CA - the LACBC won an award at the Bike summit, and are part of the reason that LA is becoming more bike friendly.
Hampsted, NH (from the Onion) - "Area Man's Biggest Accomplishment Not Ever Killing Anyone With his Car"
Cities Everywhere - NACTO released it's Urban Bikeway Design Guide.
The guide is the result of months of study by engineers, planners and academics from fifteen major U.S. cities. It offers comprehensive design instruction on the latest in cycling infrastructure innovations from Europe and stateside, such as bike boxes, bike signals and separated cycle tracks.
Planners hope their recommendations will be incorporated into the Federal Highway Administration’s Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices and the American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials’ design guidelines.
Conversations throughout the course of the NACTO guide development process also revealed that federal officials aren’t as unfriendly to new bike treatments as many city-level transportation officials had expected. Federal transportation officials have indicated that many of the 20 bike treatments recommended by NACTO are allowable within federal guidelines — while not explicitly endorsed — and therefore eligible for federal funding,
New York, NY - [More on the bike lane kerfuffle forthcoming] - One cyclist shares a disturbing story of how the "increased enforcement" has been going down. Unfortunately, as told in this case, it involved some physical abuse (including "he grabbed me between the legs and squeezed") being held overnight on a non-existent warrant, and being charged with "resisting arrest and disorderly contact." Video evidence shows otherwise.
Miami, FL - Miami's DecoBike bike-sharing program starts on Tuesday. It being Miami, their ads are a little more sexy than DC's - including unhelmeted models.
Just to be clear: The video evidence shows that there was no "resisting arrest and disorderly [conduct]" and confirms that it "involved some physical abuse (including "he grabbed me between the legs and squeezed")"
I have not seen the video but the author seems ti be confident that it supports his story.
Until then, I remain optimistic against my better judgment that NYPD has learned from the convictions of its officers for gratuitous violence against cyclists and other innocent citizens.

I meant to say "The video evidence purports to show that there was..."

It does appear that Miami Beach beats out CaBi in the category of Playmate bike ambassadors (Francesca Frigo).

Yeah, not to take anything away from Chris Holben, but he's not Playboy material.
