I'll be rooting for Kentucky tonight, but there are other activities this weekend that don't involve relying on teenagers for your entertainment
- Today, take part in the Marvin Gaye Day Bike tour. Or head to the bike swap at Eastern Market.
- On Sunday, stop by City Bikes Capitol Hill Grand Opening. Register to win a free bike.
- On April 7th, stop by the Building Museum to see Danish architect, planner, and author Jan Gehl discuss his work making cities across the U.S. more walkable, bikeable, and sustainable.
- Rails-to-trails and Coca-Cola will be planting 25 trees along the Met Branch Trail on April 21.
- So the 2012 Giro d'Italia, not coming to DC. "Washington, DC had bid to become the first city outside of Europe to host a Grand Tour. Robin Morton of g4 Productions, who is working with the DC organising committee, had previously indicated to Cyclingnews that there were a number of unsolved issues which would eliminate Washington's chances for the coming year, but that the city still had good chances in the future." The effort though is still "alive and well' but for a later year. "Washington, DC, had been expected to get the nod for the 2012 start, but the mayor's defeat last fall put a crimp in the American city's plans." Thanks Gray voters....
- On the upside, Gray wants to see the bike share program carry ads. He's hoping to raise $500,000 from it (slide 35). Scanning the Mayor's budget: Number of times Capital Bikeshare is mentioned = 0. Number of times SmartBike is mentioned = 1."...the Progressive Transportation Services provides public transportation service through Metro and the Circulator bus system and modern technology initiatives such as the SmartBike DC program"
- FABB writes to the Post.
- I can't tell from this whether or not WTOP gets the joke or not.
WTOP's tweets suggest that they did get the joke...
