So much to catch up on
- On my run last night I noticed two things. First of all the bike lanes on 11th St SE have been extended from Pennsylvania Ave to M St SE. Second, they've finished paving the new Anacostia Drive SE and are ripping up the old road. I assume the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail will go where the old road was. Right now it's hard to know where to run or ride on the new road.
- NYC taxi cabs have a new sticker inside warning passengers to "watch for cyclists."
- London's bike sharing has problems with empty stations, full stations and inoperable stations too (though it sounds much worse than what we have here). Montreal's bike sharing has problems with people vandalizing the ads.
- More research points to the safety value of cycletracks.
- Bike MD Bike Valet.
- WABA's summer fundraiser - BikeFest
- The DC BAC has their agenda up for this week's meeting and among other items will discuss how to make Metro more bike friendly. Meanwhile, a study of how best to integrate bikes and transit determined that allowing bikes on transit is the most cost-effective (more than "two-bikes", bike to transit or shared bikes).
- Still more on Arlington GOP complaints about CaBi removing 8 parking spaces in the R-B corridor. Steve Offut makes an excellent point about how bikesharing can make driving more convenient "having plenty of Bikeshare stations sprinkled throughout a dense area can make it more convenient for drivers, because it greatly expands the area where they can find parking and still easily access their destination." Park near a CaBi station and then bike the last half mile
It was BikeUMD's bike valet for Maryland Day. They're a relatively new branch of UMCP's DOT.

actually I do the parking trick with cabi all the time now. Drive into DC, leave my car on the street, and get around via cabi.
from what I've read about the london bikes from oobrien's site commuting usage is down, weekend usage is up. Not sure how many tourists are using it.

I love the new 11th Street bike lanes. I feel safer getting to my house now. And, soon, to Nats games! I hope it slows the traffic down a bit.
